Chapter 61
Elsie felt a laugh bubbling up but kept a straight face as she stared at the elevator’s metal doors.
William, visibly annoyed, muttered, “That brat must’ve learned it from you—drives people mad just the same.”
Elsie turned so that only the back of her head was facing him, practically radiating a silent “Not talking to you.”
Will pretended not to notice. “Snow’s falling. I’ll give you a ride.”
Elsie finally glanced at him. “To the courthouse?”
He gave her a sideways look, his tone totally unserious but weirdly agreeable. “Sure. Let’s go if that’s what you want.”
His immediate yes was so unexpected that Elsie froze for a second. Then it hit her—the courthouse wasn’t even open today. It was only the fourth day of the New Year.
So her face went blank again, emotionless as ever, and she turned away without another word.
The Harding Group had ties on Wall Street, and a huge portion of their work was overseas, meaning there was never really a full holiday even during Spring Festival.
