It was strange. Charles carried half of Carl's name. And now, Carl's heart beat inside Charles' chest. In my desperate grief, I clung to a foolish hope. Maybe this was the universe granting me one extra chance. I loved Carl and hated Charles. But Carl's heart was inside him. When Lilith ran away from her marriage to go abroad, the Moore family needed someone else to send to Charles. I went willingly. Facing Patrick and Andrea, I held back my hatred and let them bring me to Charles. I looked at the heart beating in his chest and remembered every moment with Carl. As long as I was alive, I needed something to live for. Charles' heart was the only thing that kept me going.
