66 The Invasion
That evening, Gavadiol stood behind the window blinds and stared out at the city, his city, with the lights twinkling like stars. Would this city be fully his by this time tomorrow?
Or would he be lying in the pool of his own blood, dead or terribly injured?
But funny enough, even as he contemplated these things, a familiar feeling began to rise from deep within him. It was the feeling of excitement. The excitement of a good scrap that lay ahead.
He turned to Konstantin and found the lad lying on his back, his eyes wide open.
“Konstantin, how do you feel?” He asked. “Are you afraid?”
“To be honest yeah,” the big fellow responded frankly. “But I am always going to be with you no matter where you go so I don't count it as anything.”
Gavadiol reflected gratefully on that for a moment. “But Konstantin, you know you don't have to do that. This is my fight. You don't have to get involved.”
The other fellow heaved himself up. “Yeah, I don't have to get involved but the thing is, I
