"You want to stay here, huh? Fine. I'll go then," Alexander said. He had barely taken a step when Audrey spoke, her voice icy. "If you disappear from my life again, I'll make sure that your friend Sean and every last one of your friends and mentors back home lose their place in this world." Alexander's body went rigid. "Audrey, have you no shame?" "I don't want to do this," Audrey said, her knife moving deftly through the vegetables until, for once, it slipped, slicing her finger. She stared at the bead of blood for a long moment before continuing, "But it's the most effective way, isn't it?" Alexander didn't answer her. The sprawling villa fell into heavy silence. She quickly whipped up another meal and set it on the table, but Alexander had no appetite. He couldn't even stand to look at her. Without saying a single word, he headed straight to bed. Audrey walked in with the dishes. "Sleepy? You should eat something first." Alexander pulled the covers over his head. "Get out."
