After saying goodbye to Ethan, Emma didn't look back. She turned and headed upstairs, cool and composed.
Ethan just stood there, watching her walk away. The moment felt hollow. He hadn't realized yet how badly he'd messed up.
Sure, dumping your wife might feel good for a second—until you're stuck in the "win her back" nightmare stage. Ethan was bound to crash headfirst into that someday.
Leaving the Grace residence, Ethan wandered aimlessly. He didn't feel like going back to work, didn't want to return to that empty house, and definitely didn't want to set foot in the hospital.
"Meet me. Same place. Twenty minutes," he muttered into his phone before the person on the other end could say anything—and then promptly hung up.
Ryan barely got out "I can't—" before the call cut off and he was met with silence.
"Damn it, Ethan! Always doing this crap. This better be serious, or I swear I'll knock some sense into you," Ryan snapped at the empty air before yanking off his white coat and trading
