CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY FOUR – HIGH PROFILE
One night, as she lay in yet another unfamiliar bed, Rebecca found herself missing the simplicity of her old life. Sure, it had been restrictive, but at least she had had a home.
The next morning, Rebecca woke up with a new determination. She couldn't keep living like this. Something had to change.
As she drove into town, a familiar sight caught her eye. The old library, where she had spent so many hours learning Japanese, stood just as she remembered it.
On impulse, Rebecca parked her car and went inside. The smell of old books and the quiet rustle of pages immediately calmed her frayed nerves.
"Rebecca?" a familiar voice called out. "Is that you?"
Rebecca turned to see Mrs. Watanabe, the librarian who had taught her Japanese, smiling at her.
"Mrs. Watanabe," Rebecca said, feeling a genuine smile spread across her face for the first time in weeks. "It's so good to see you."
As they caught up, Rebecca found herself pouring out her frustrations about her housing search.
