CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY - NINE - THE SURVEILLANCE FOOTAGE
"Looks like our hunch was right," Matteo whispered, killing the engine and sliding down in his seat. "This is definitely a mafia hideout."
Rebecca's mouth went dry as she watched the guards make their rounds. "What now?"
Matteo's eyes scanned the area, finally settling on a small door partly hidden by overgrown weeds. "There," he pointed. "That looks like our best bet for getting in unnoticed. We just need to wait for the right moment."
They sat in tense silence, watching the guards' movements, looking for a pattern. After what felt like hours, a gap in the patrols presented itself.
"Now," Matteo hissed, and they both slipped out of the car, crouching low as they made their way towards the back entrance.
Rebecca's heart pounded so loudly she was sure it would give them away. Gravel crunched beneath their feet as they neared the door. Matteo reached for the handle, and to their surprise, it turned easily.
Just as they were about to slip inside, a gruff voice called out behind them
