This filled Wilbur with despair. Just then, a shadow walked out of the darkness. This was followed by a second shadow, then a third. Within half a minute, a dozen shadows had emerged from the darkness. At the same time, there was a series of footsteps coming from behind him. Wilbur turned around and saw another dozen shadows emerging from the darkness behind him. Now, he was completely surrounded with nowhere to hide.
