Chapter 21

Amara released Jasper's hand. She'd already received Nora's call while they were out, warning her that Gus had been waiting at the gate. Jasper had offered to let her stay at his place to avoid the confrontation, but she had refused everything. She wasn't the one who'd done something wrong. She had nothing to run from. Similarly, she had no intention of hiding her relationship with Jasper from Gus. Whatever she chose to do was none of his business anymore. Amara looked at Gus with cold indifference. "Who he is doesn't concern you." In that instant, Gus felt as though needles were piercing his heart. During the flight, he'd imagined countless scenarios for their reunion, but never one where Amara would be this distant or where she'd have someone new by her side. He felt like he couldn't breathe, as if the world was closing in on him. After staring into those icy eyes for what felt like an eternity, he finally found his voice. "Amara, I know you're angry.
