Nia smoothed down her blazer, taking a deep breath as she stood outside the imposing glass doors of Bates and Bates Law Firm. This was it. Her chance to turn things around.
She pushed through the doors, entering a sleek, modern lobby. The receptionist, a young woman with a polished smile, looked up. "May I help you?"
"Yes, I'm Nia Moreno. I have an interview with Mr. Bates."
The receptionist nodded, tapping at her computer. "Of course. Please have a seat. Mr. Bates will be with you shortly."
Nia perched on the edge of a leather chair, her portfolio clutched tightly in her hands. She'd researched the firm extensively, preparing answers for every possible question. This job – even if it was just a receptionist position – could be her stepping stone to something bigger.
"Ms. Moreno?" A deep voice called out. Nia looked up to see a tall, distinguished man with salt-and-pepper hair. "I'm Harold Bates. Please, come in."
