Holiday Cheer
It was approaching midnight when we finally left Freya’s house.
Ken was sound asleep in the booster seat.
Kieran drove us home.
Carole and Valerie had three days off.
It was just the three of us in the house tonight.
After I put Ken to bed in the nursery room, I returned to the master bedroom, yawning.
My eyes lit up as soon as the door opened.
The room was illuminated by strings of bright multi-coloured lights hanging down from the ceiling.
A Rudolf reindeer figurine sat on top of a miniature Christmas tree that was about knee-high, decorated with shiny baubles and tassels.
A garland hung over the door.
The closets were dressed up in mini wreaths and there was a huge, red bow over the headboard.
‘What do you think?’ Kieran hugged me from behind.
‘I thought we weren’t doing a Christmas tree this year.’
‘It was a last-minute decision,’ he said. ‘Just to add some holiday cheer.’
‘We spent the entire day together. When did you do this?’
‘I had some help,’ he smiled.
‘It’s beautiful. Thank
