‘Come on. Let’s get you out of here.’ Captain Rowe took my arm. ‘You did well, Mrs Valentine.’
Ten minutes later and one floor below, Kieran stepped out of the lift and rushed straight into my open arms.
He buried his face in the crook of my shoulder. ‘Thank god you are okay.’
I patted his back. ‘You were with me. Of course I’d be okay.’
The SWAT sniper came up to him.
They shook hands.
‘Great shot,’ the sniper said. ‘If you ever get tired of making boatloads of money and want a career switch, give me a call.’
Kieran laughed. ‘Thanks. I’ll keep that in mind.’
I sat with a blanket wrapped around my shoulders in a doctor’s office.
My left arm had been seen to.
Good news—no broken bones.
Kieran stayed with me while the police officers processed the scene up on the roof. ‘You must have been so scared. Your hands are still shaking.’
‘It’s the adrenaline.’ I touched my belly. ‘At least the baby’s fine. Both babies.’
Kieran fetched a cup of hot water for me. ‘Drink this.’
