Chapter 31

"Ma'am, Scarlett declined your visitation request. Please go home." Margaret couldn't understand why Scarlett was acting this way. She just wanted to ask Scarlett what this was all really for. That morning, Margaret had gone to the police station early to fill out the visitation form, but now, she was being told that Scarlett refused to see her. "Officer, may I ask why? Did she say anything?" Margaret asked the officer just as he was about to walk away. She didn't expect an answer, but to her surprise, he paused. The young officer turned around, lowered his gaze as he thought for a second, then looked at her and said, "She said, 'It's not like she knows anything yet anyway.'" Margaret froze for a moment. Then suddenly, something clicked. Her eyes widened, and she grabbed the officer's arm in shock. "What did you just say? Say that again!" The startled officer flinched at her outburst. Scratching his head, he repeated, "She said, 'It's not like she knows anything yet anyway.'"
