CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY EIGHT – GOING UNDERCOVER
"...need to finish the job," Mark was saying. "That last stunt wasn't enough. They're still hanging on."
A gruff voice replied, "What more do you want? We trashed the place. Any more and it'll look suspicious."
"I don't care how it looks," Mark snapped. "I want The Rusty Anchor gone. Mr. Hawthorne is breathing down my neck about this. If we don't get rid of the competition soon, it'll be our heads on the chopping block."
Charlotte's breath caught in her throat. This was the evidence they needed. She inched closer to the partially open door, straining to hear more.
A third voice, smoother than the others, spoke up. "We could always arrange a little... accident. Gas leak, faulty wiring. These old buildings can be so unpredictable."
Charlotte felt sick. They were talking about destroying The Rusty Anchor completely.
Mark seemed to consider this. "It's risky, but... if it's our only option..."
