CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND NINETY NINE – DOUBLE CROSSED
The next day, tension hung heavy in the air as they prepared for opening. Lorenzo, nursing a hangover, seemed oblivious to the undercurrents between Charlotte and Bianca.
As the evening wore on, Charlotte found herself watching Bianca like a hawk. Every interaction with a customer, every whispered conversation with the staff, took on new significance.
Just before closing time, a group of rough-looking men entered the pub. Charlotte tensed, recognizing them as some of the local thugs who had been causing trouble.
To her surprise, Bianca approached them with a warm smile. "Gentlemen, welcome. Your usual table is ready."
As Bianca led them to a secluded booth, Charlotte caught Lorenzo's eye. He shrugged, looking as confused as she felt.
Later, as they were cleaning up, Charlotte confronted Lorenzo. "Did you know about this? Bianca cozying up to those... those criminals?"
