Joshua knew he reeked of alcohol. He had to go back to the office where he could shower before heading home. "I don't… want… Queenie… smelling the drinks… on me."
Queenie had always hated it when he came home smelling like tobacco and liquor. Pregnancy had led her nauseatic tendencies to spike, and according to Sally, she would retch if she caught so much as a whiff of raw meat.
He reckoned he had drunk enough to smell like a walking pub, and Queenie might just collapse from the stench alone.
Besides, Joshua wouldn't even let her pour water for herself. He wouldn't want her to be stuck babysitting him once he got home in this inebriated state. He would be wise to spend the night in the office.
