The sky was overcast as Regan followed closely beside Sienna. Isaac had long disappeared from sight. “He raised her for years. Father, Mother, please don’t take it to heart,” Regan said softly. The two elders held hands, sharing the same sorrow. Ahmad sighed deeply, his gaze heavy with emotion. “Seeing Callie like this... it comforts me.” Ahmad’s voice grew firmer. “She’s filial, determined. Thinking about everything she’s done—she’s bold, fearless. That’s my daughter, Ahmad’s daughter.” Regan nodded and cautiously asked, “Shall we head back to rest?” But Ahmad’s eyes drifted toward the man smoking beneath the magnolia tree. His gaze, weighted and intense, seemed to suffocate with just a glance. “Mr. Ellison,” Nelson greeted courteously, quickly stubbing out his cigarette. “How’s Joaquin holding up?” Ahmad asked. “If he’s willing, he can stay with the Ellison family. Tell him not to feel burdened.” Nelson’s smile flickered briefly. “That might be difficult.”
