Struggling to pull away from Izaak’s clutch, Gabriella squirmed with all her might, but Izaak held her tighter. He lifted her chin with his hand and held her alluring eyes captive. He caressed her swollen cheek with his thumb. “What happened to your face? Did someone hurt you?” he asked like a protective dad of his daughter. Gabriella pressed her lips, choosing not to answer. “My number hasn’t changed. Why didn’t you call me?” he asked again. Just the fact that Izaak asked that was unbelievable to Gabriella.
