Victoria stood by the window, gazing at the old trees and the few pedestrians on the street outside.
The day was fading, and the long twilight cast the earth in a soft but melancholic light.
Her reflection on the window glass looked aged and solitary.

Speaking to her son Benson, she said, “You should have seen this coming when you were at the hospital. That Mary is clueless. Even if you divorce Yvonne, she’ll never be welcomed here.”
