Benson returned to the old mansion. Victoria stood by the hallway window, bathed in the dappled light of the setting sun streaming through the glass.
She glanced at him sideways, a look of pity and helplessness on her face.
“The more you look for her, the more she hides from you, making it impossible for you to find her,” she said softly, her voice tinged with a sigh.
