Chapter 253
Maverick carried Giselle away in his arms, berating her...
He seemed to be angry.
But actually, he was clearly just being tender-hearted.
Nancy's gaze always followed their departing figures.
She stood here, and it seemed like Maverick didn't glance at her even once.
Was she just oxygen to him?
Indeed, once he got what he wanted, there was no need to even glance at a counterfeit like her.
"Do I look like her?"
Nancy suddenly spoke, her voice dipping into melancholy.
The only one standing beside her was Joey.
His gaze followed Nancy's, coming to rest on the retreating figure of the man with the woman clutching his neck, seemingly whispering something.
This wasn't Joey's first time seeing Giselle. He replied, "No, not alike!"
Nancy chuckled lightly, "Without even stating who I am comparing myself to, how do you know we're different?"
Joey answered, "Even twins have differences, let alone two completely different individuals."
"But many people say we resemble each other."
Joey's gaze shifted towards Nancy, and he said, "If you say say, then be it."
This sentence of Joey inexplicably pricked Nancy somewhat.
She said with a cold voice, "You really are a good bodyguard."
.....
Maverick went to the hospital, taking with her three injured people.
Giselle, Harper, and Kendrick, all three of them had injuries of varying degrees.
Fortunately, they were all superficial wounds. They just needed to get their wounds treated, apply some ointment, and take care not to leave any scars.
They went to the top hospital, and the nurse treating them naturally recognized Harper. Seeing Harper in this state, she was somewhat surprised.
"Doctor Green, what happened to you?"
"Nothing."
The nurse was again surprised, "Doctor Green, weren't you supposed to go on a business trip to Frystonia? When did you come back?"
"It's arranged by the hospital."
With every question the nurse asked, Harper answered one, but the little nurse still noticed something was off about Harper. Even though she was calm, she gave off an indescribable strange sense.
This nurse was somewhat of a gossip. Most probably because she was somewhat familiar with Harper, she asked many questions down to the root details.
However, Harper had a good temper. Even if she didn't want to say anything, she wouldn't ignore others.
Giselle couldn't stand it any longer, didn't want to listen to the young nurse's incessant questions that brought up Harper's painful memories. She walked over to the nurse and said, "You come help me treat my wound."
She switched places with Harper.
The young nurse probably sensed Giselle's annoyance at her, cursing in her heart, but remaining polite on the surface.
Everyone in the hospital knew that Doctor Green's best friend married into a rich family, naturally, they can't afford to offend her.
By the end of the treatment, the ointment was almost applied.
Maverick's phone rang out. He stood by Giselle all this time. Giselle heard the sound and looked over, just in time to see the name on the screen when Maverick picked up his phone.
Steward—
Upon seeing it was Steward, Maverick frowned slightly.
This further irritated Giselle.
However, since Harper was present, she didn't want to mention Steward's name so she restrained herself but signaled the nurse to stop.
When Maverick walked out with his phone, Giselle followed him.
She clung to Maverick's arm, on her toes, bringing her ear closer when Maverick answered the call.
She was determined to find out, what this jerk wanted from Maverick.
Maverick didn't stop Giselle's little movement, he was even afraid that she would lose her balance on her toes, and with one hand free, he protected her waist.
"What is it?"
When Maverick asked Steward, his tone was not as casual as their usual conversations, a bit solemn, and it was clear that he was unhappy.
Harper.
She was Giselle's best friend.
Naturally, he also held a softer spot for her in his heart.
On the other end, Steward remained silent for a while before he eventually said, "I have a situation on my side."
"Oh?"
"A friend of mine, who is currently in custody, reached out for my help, but the people here told me that you have ordered that no bail shall be granted."
Speaking of the friend, by merely thinking with their toes, they could tell it was Belinda.
Steward was actually intending to bail her out!
Giselle was instantly enraged, reaching out to snatch Maverick's phone, but her wrist was seized by Maverick who shook his head at her, signaling her to calm down.
But how could Giselle calm down? If she had a brick at hand now, she wished nothing more than to smash Steward's head to pieces.
Nevertheless, she obliged to Maverick's words, swallowed her anger for now but kept glaring at Maverick, and mouthed to him, warning him that she would fight to the death if he dared to help Steward.
It was only after seeing Giselle calming down did Maverick finally continued.
"Do you want me to let her go?"
"She is my friend, after all, please give me some face."
"Hasn't anybody told you how she has offended me?"
Steward really didn't know. When he came to bail her out, the only thing people told him was, "Mr. Hyland has instructed us not to allow bail."
He hadn't even seen Belinda yet, so he had no idea what had happened.
"When she comes out, I will have her apologize to you."
Maverick said, "Before you fuss over her, you should first understand your current situation."
Steward didn't quite understand, "Did I offend you in any way?"
Maverick did not respond to Steward's question, but instead said, "No release, no face given, as a brother, I advise you to ask your friend why she has angered me."
Maverick hung up the phone after saying this.
Giselle was standing by his side, "That's it?"
Giselle was obviously dissatisfied with Maverick, infuriated beyond belief, "Maverick, are you protecting him? Why didn't you scold him? If you won't scold him then let me, I'll do it, why did you hang up the phone?"
