Chapter 269
Upon hearing this, Liyana fell silent.
Patrick was sitting on the hospital bed, realizing his mother's intentions, held tightly onto the sheet, "I won't allow it."
Liyana looked up.
Patrick stared at her, pleading word by word, "I beg you, please don't disturb her."
.....
Maverick returned to Shallow Bay, dinner was ready.
Irma shouted for dinner, Giselle reluctantly put on her slippers and went downstairs. She was thinking too much, her spirits were somewhat low.
Seeing Maverick, she couldn't adjust her emotions in time.
She looked preoccupied.
Upon noticing, Maverick put his suit jacket on the clothes rack and followed Giselle to the dining room.
They sat opposite each other.
It was clear that Giselle was still lost in thought. Maverick glanced at her, "Not happy today?"
With no energy to pretend, Giselle nodded, "Mm."
Maverick asked, "Why?"
Giselle gave a flippant excuse, "Too bored."
Maverick glanced at Giselle's injured arm hanging before her. These days, she couldn't drive herself because of her injury. She was either accompanying herself to work in the Hyland Group or waiting in the hospital for Harper to finish work.
Indeed, it was quite boring.
Maverick said, "I'll take you out for a drive tomorrow."
Giselle, who was picking up vegetables with her chopsticks, looks up at his comment, asking him, "Don't you have work?"
Maverick replied, "There should still be time for me to accompany you."
Giselle pursed her lips, a warm feeling stirred within her.
But with the warmth, guilt also emerged.
She secretly visited Patrick without telling Maverick. She felt that it was wrong; as her husband, Maverick should be informed.
However, she dared not to tell him.
She was afraid that Maverick will get furious, afraid that he will restrict her actions.
If Patrick was simply having a mild cold or fever, she could afford to be indifferent. But now, in his severe condition, she couldn't stop herself from thinking about him, from visiting him.
She really couldn’t.
While sleeping, Maverick still cradled Giselle in his arms as usual.
With her head rested on his arm, Giselle drew warmth from Maverick.
She liked it.
"Maverick, will you always hold me like this?"
The question was abrupt.
The bedroom light was already off, with only a bit of moonlight seeping through the window.
Under the faint shadows, Maverick gazed fixedly at Giselle, his eyes deep, "Do you want me to always hold you?"
Giselle lightly nodded within his arms.
She confessed, "I like it when you hold me this way."
His arm was resting at Giselle's waist. Following her cue, Maverick gently pulled her closer, his warm breath falling on her ear, "Okay."
He said.
That night, the two didn't do anything else, simply falling asleep in each other's arms.
The next day when Maverick woke up, his arm was completely numb, but he couldn't help but curve a smile.
He felt Giselle's dependence on him.
Bit by bit, he would make her fall deeper, until she couldn't leave him.
Maverick pushed back his entire schedule for the day. He patiently accompanied Giselle, carrying bags and paying bills when she went shopping, drinking the kind of milk tea that only young girls would enjoy, and when she was vanity-heads over to the hair salon, he would wait there for half an hour. Since Giselle couldn't drive, he became her private chauffeur...
In short, he accompanied Giselle in whatever she wanted to do.
The recovery exercises at the hospital, weren't missed out either.
Giselle, because of her non-severe injury, has shown good recovery. Today, when she went to the hospital, the doctor suggested that she could take off her arm sling. But she still needed to continue with her rehabilitation.
After their rehabilitation treatment, they bumped into Harper.
She just finished a surgery and was coming back after visiting the restroom. She happened to come across Giselle and naturally noticed Maverick behind her.
Harper couldn't help but smile, with a sense of relief.
Maverick moved away, leaving some private space for the girlfriends.
Due to Harper's work, they couldn't talk much. Giselle wasn't able to share what she heard outside the ward that day, and Harper didn't mention her encounter with Belinda either.
"Let's go," said Giselle as she quickly approached Maverick and looped her arm around his.
It was sooner than she expected.
"How come you didn't talk more with Harper?" Maverick asked.
"She had work to do," she replied.
"Hmm."
Considering Harper's demeanor earlier, Maverick assumed that she didn't know about the incident.
As they left the hospital for the parking lot, they unexpectedly ran into Ben. He had just parked his car and was clearly surprised to see them. For a moment, he paused, then his gaze fell on Giselle's hand on Maverick's arm. He frowned and let out a small scoff, but said nothing and walked away, passing by them.
The ‘psst’ sound tightly gripped Giselle’s heart. Her hand involuntarily withdrew from Maverick's arm, only to be firmly grasped by him again, squeezing her palm tightly.
He lowered his gaze at her, his eyes deep. "What's bothering you?"
Giselle shook her head. "Nothing."
Apparently, this word didn't carry much conviction.
But Maverick didn't press her further, only holding Giselle’s hand with extra strength.
The appearance of Ben in the hospital indicated something.
Patrick must be in the hospital too.
He couldn’t allow Giselle to bump into him.
"The doctor said your arm is nearly healed now. You don't need to come to the hospital anymore."
Upon Maverick’s words, Giselle immediately responded, "I still need to do rehab."
She had to come to the hospital. She must arrive.
The two have already seated in the car. Maverick bent over to fasten Giselle’s seat belt. With the 'click' sound, Maverick said, "I will invite a professional physiotherapist to our home."
"I don't want that." Giselle refused but worried that Maverick would overthink, so she added, "I don't want to stay at home all day. At least I can chat with Harper at the hospital."
"Be a good girl."
Maverick stroked Giselle's face, saying, "Listen to me, stay at home."
As he finished speaking, he let go and sat straight up, "If you want Harper to accompany you, you can call her to come home. She might need company too right now."
Giselle knew, Maverick really wasn't going to let her come to the hospital.
But why!
She clearly hadn't aroused his suspicion.
The car sped away, heading in the direction of Shallow Bay. Giselle glanced sideways, her gaze landing on Maverick’s profile.
It seemed like she could never truly understand Maverick.
...
Maverick didn’t allow Giselle to go to the hospital, but he was still not at ease.
He instructed Judd to keep an eye on her. If Giselle went to the hospital, he would be the first to know.
Just as Maverick suspected, Giselle, on the third day, went to the hospital surreptitiously.
She had no other intentions.
She was just concerned about Patrick’s condition, worried, scared, that he might die....
