Chapter 274
But she wouldn't just silently get rid of the child.
She was so miserable, so they should also pay some price.
First Hospital.
Harper was on duty at the outpatient clinic today. The Neurology department has relatively fewer patients compared to other departments.
Kendrick from the same department returned to the country a few days ago. He was high-spirited and was touted by the hospital like the head of the Neurology department. There were even patients who, after hearing the news, temporarily changed their chief doctors.
One of Harper's original patients was someone who pulled a lot of strings to change their chief doctor to Kendrick.
She didn't say anything, respecting the patient's choice and the hospital's arrangement.
She sat in the outpatient clinic one morning with no new calls. Harper went to the restroom, washed her hands, walked a few steps, and felt a bit lighter.
Upon returning to the clinic, the nurse told her, "Doctor Green, there's a patient waiting for you."
Harper gave a nod.
Pushing open the door, she didn't expect that the person inside would be Belinda.
She was dressed in a black long dress, wearing a mask and sunglasses, and even wore a black fisherman's hat. She was wrapped up tightly, but Harper recognized her at first glance.
She walked in and asked Belinda professionally, "Where do you feel uncomfortable?"
"You should know."
Belinda took off her mask, removed her glasses, crossed her legs, and with a forceful gaze, she looked straight into Harper's eyes.
Harper sat back in her office, "I'm not sure about your disease. If you had medical records before, you could show them to me."
"What a fake confusion," Belinda said. "I feel uncomfortable." She touched her stomach, deliberately saying, "The baby in my stomach has been causing disturbances these days. I throw up whatever I eat."
Harper's expression was pale, "I'm from the Neurology Department, you should go to the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department."
Belinda chuckled, "Shouldn't you doctors be very knowledgeable about this? I should be able to consult you, right? Besides, this child is Che's, shouldn't you, as his ex-girlfriend, show some concern?"
There was a thermos cup on the table, Harper picked it up, took a sip then put it down, "I'm sorry, but this is not within my specialty."
Having said that, she rang the bell outside, calling a nurse, "Please take Miss Canton to the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department."
"You don't need to rush me." Belinda stood up, "I'll wait for you."
As soon as she finished speaking, she put on her sunglasses and walked out the office door.
After she walked out, she didn't leave.
She took out her phone and dialed Steward. As expected, he did not answer.
She wasn't discouraged and headed to the nurse's station, borrowing the hospital's landline to call him.
Steward answered the hospital's call very promptly.
"Steward."
As soon as Belinda's voice came out, Steward's first reaction was to hang up, but he quickly sensed something was off, "What are you doing at the hospital?"
Belinda said, "Isn't it the aim of you guys to have me abort the child? Of course, I've come here for the surgery."
"That's not what I asked." Steward said in a deep voice, "How did you get the landline number of the neurological department?"
Belinda laughed, "Oh, you really took note, even remembering the department's landline number so clearly."
"Belinda, I'm warning you, stay away from her."
"I won't!"
What did she have to fear now, having lost everything? Belinda ignored Steward's warning, saying, "Almost forgot to tell you. Your ex-girlfriend, the one who dumped you, knows I'm carrying your child."
"You..."
"Don't get worked up." Belinda still laughed, "You're really ruthless, you know? You dumped me without giving me a cent. You're not short of money, even if you don't give me any, don't destroy me. Do you know how much humiliation I, Belinda, have endured to get where I am today? The things in those photos, don't feel disgusted, there's even worse. But did you think that's what I wanted? This industry is so chaotic, without a protector, without a sponsor, there's no money, no opportunity, and I would be skinned alive. I have to climb up, I must take the leap."
"Do you know, when I met you, I thought how much luck I had struck? So, I was obedient, I was so careful to please you, always cautious, worried about upsetting you. But you, you were unfeeling, dismissing me without a second thought, even discarding your own child. I dare not even leave my house now, everyone is blaming me, demanding money, you won't give me an easy time, so I won't let you live in peace either."
"What do you want to do?" Steward, sensing something was not right, asked. Belinda sounded increasingly desperate at the end.
Seeking revenge on him, she went to Harper instead.
"Take it out on me if you want. Don't touch her!"
"How could I dare touch her? How badly would it hurt you if I did? You're the dignified president of Brownard Industry Corporation, your Brown family, I can't afford to provoke."
Touching her belly, she said, "But, having lost everything, it seems I have nothing to fear anymore."
With that, Belinda ended the call.
She took out her phone to check the time. It was time for Harper to get off work.
Belinda was wearing high heels, the tips of which clacked crisply on the ground.
Harper went to her office, changed her clothes, and walked out of the main gate of the ward, her car was parked in the underground parking lot.
Belinda had been waiting here quite some time. As Harper approached her car, she suddenly emerged from behind it, blocking the door.
"I want to have a talk with you."
Harper frowned, "Could you please step aside?"
"You should be able to tell." Belinda leaned on the car door, "I was specifically waiting here for you."
Clearly, Belinda had no intentions of backing down easily.
Holding her car key, Harper looked up at her, "What do you want exactly?"
Belinda said nothing but unblinkingly stared at Harper. After a while, she said, "You're not that pretty, anyway."
"Are you done?"
Harper didn't care.
"I think I know why Steward is seeing someone else." Belinda got a bit closer to Harper, "Will it upset you? How can you be so calm? Don't you think your deadpan personality will make men feel bored?"
"If you're trying to tell me that I'm not pretty, I'm boring, and it's my own fault for being cheated on, then let me tell you right now, I got your message. You don't need to assert your existence in front of me. Steward and I have broken up. I won't react to anything related to him, so please, step aside."
"And what if I refuse?"
This was the first time Harper had encountered someone like this. Belinda was incredibly obstinate; it was unbearable even for someone with a good temper.
Harper grabbed Belinda's arm, "I'm sorry, but I'm really in a hurry."
Belinda stared at the hand gripping her arm and smirked triumphantly, "Here I was thinking I wouldn't get the chance."
