Chapter 276
"Where are you now?"
Harper answered, "At Northill Residence."
As Giselle walked out the door, naturally, two people arranged by Maverick accompanied her all the way.
She entered Northill Residence, and within a few minutes, she and Harper left the building together.
After Maverick found out that she went to Northill Residence, he immediately made a phone call, "I had Judd reserve a hotel suite for you, you can accompany Harper there."
His words were somewhat tactful.
However, it was clear to Giselle what he meant.
You can accompany Harper, but not at Northill Residence.
These days, Giselle's fighting spirit had been completely worn down. She knew any resistance was useless against Maverick.
She obeyed, asked for the address then left for the hotel with Harper.
On their way there, Harper took many phone calls, most of them from the hospital. They were either asking her to write an apology statement or a reflection paper.
In a nutshell, they put all the issues on Harper.
Harper tried to explain the causes, but the hospital didn't care at all. For them, it wasn't about how things happened, but about public opinion and the hospital's reputation.
The first decision they made was to suspend her.
Clearly, there would be a second one, and a third one...
The reason was simply: temporary suspension.
This was because, in her professional field, Harper was indeed quite capable.
The hospital had painstakingly nurtured her, and after all, they valued talent.
Although the trending topic was hastily removed, public opinion didn't subside.
In relation to her work, Harper couldn't remain too calm. The two of them went to a hotel and Harper was constantly busy with her laptop.
Again and again, the hospital urged her to apologize.
Harper was always rigid on principle.
She refused to apologize.
She did write a self-inspection report, but what she criticized was causing trouble to the hospital due to her private issues. Not a single word admitted that she had done anything excessive to Belinda.
Naturally, this caused dissatisfaction among the hospital leadership, who wanted to quickly resolve this issue.
After several calls, Harper put down her phone, took off her glasses, and let out a heavy sigh.
Giselle came over and asked, "Have you figured out how to handle this?"
Harper replied, "Steward said he would give me an explanation."
"He should indeed solve this. If it weren't for him, Belinda wouldn't be able to find you."
Harper pressed her brow, got up, went to the bar to open a bottle of mineral water, and while unscrewing the cap, asked Giselle, "Where should we go for dinner?"
Giselle settled onto the couch, "I don't want to go out."
She then added, "Those two persistent guys outside are getting on my nerves."
Harper replied, "No matter, they are far away, we'll just do our thing."
In the end, both of them decided to go out and casually picked a restaurant to eat at.
Spring had arrived, the temperature was warming up. Giselle was wearing a suit jacket with a camisole dress underneath, while Harper stuck to her usual minimalist style - a black sweater paired with black pants.
Thanks to her tall and slender figure, besides the somber look, she also exhibited a unique aura of cold elegance.
They sat in a booth outside and ordered a few dishes.
While they were waiting for their food, Harper received another phone call. It was an unknown number, and upon answering, she discovered it was from Kendrick. She immediately hung up the call.
"Who was it?" Giselle knew Harper's temperament well. She rarely showed such impatience and avoidance to anyone.
Harper replied, "Doctor Brown from the hospital."
"Is he still harassing you?"
Why wouldn't he?
Kendrick was like a maniac.
Especially after the incident with Belinda, upon finding out that Harper broke up with her boyfriend, he had become even more relentless.
"I've already told Harper," he sighed, "With this mess she's gotten into, the hospital isn't planning on defending her."
"But if she chooses to follow me, I could plead with my uncle. At the very least, I can assure that she could continue to work as a doctor."
In summary--
Harper's life and work are now a chaotic mess.
Asking Giselle to join her for a meal was intended as a brief respite.
But regrettably, things did not go as planned.
"You must be that disgraceful doctor, even harming a child. Have you no humanity left?"
One of the diners recognized Harper.
Due to her recognition, more and more people recognized Harper. These days, physically stepping forth and courageously upholding justice is rare. But if they feel that they can uphold justice by simply spewing criticisms, then they transform into warriors.
One by one, pointing fingers and hurling insults at Harper.
"How could you, a woman yourself, bear to do this?"
"You, with your nefarious ways, claiming to heal and save. Doubtfully it was a scalpel you held, more like a killer's knife."
"You've killed someone else's child, don’t ever dream about having one yourself. Whatever man does, heaven watches. You will face retribution."
...
The crowd's insults became increasingly vile. Giselle, unable to remain seated, he forcefully slapped the table and stood up. "Enough! Stop making baseless statements about what you think you know— or is it that you all have simply too much free time?"
"Who are you anyway? What does our criticism of her have to do with you?"
The situation suddenly turned uncontrollable. Harper stood up, pulling Giselle’s arm, wanting to leave. The crowd who was roused into a fervor by their own insults, reluctant to let them go, shoved and pushed them. The two bodyguards outside the door, seeing that the situation wasn’t right, hurried in to protect Giselle.
Someone picked up their phone and started recording a video, "Look, the unscrupulous doctor is having someone beaten up."
"Make way!"
"Move..."
Giselle and Harper barely made it out of the crowd, just stepped out of the restaurant, when someone suddenly hurled a mineral water bottle at them.
"You even harm others' children..."
As soon as the bottle flew in, all manner of objects began to rain down on them.
Giselle and Harper had no time to dodge.
One person even took off their shoe, preparing to hurl it at Harper. Giselle screamed, "Harper!"
It was evidently too late; Harper instinctively covered her head, but the shoe that was supposed to hit her didn’t fall. Instead, someone was shielding her, holding her shoulders.
When Harper opened her eyes, she thought it was Giselle's bodyguard who was protecting her.
"Are you okay?"
As the man's voice fell, she abruptly lifted her head, staring into a pair of clear and moist eyes.
Will did not wear glasses today. He was also gazing at Harper with lowered eyes.
When their eyes met, Harper was the first to avert her gaze, "I'm okay, thank you!"
Will let go of Harper. Behind him was a fallen shoe. He glanced down at it, and then looked up at the crowd.
Perhaps it was the unusual air the man in front of them was giving off. The people who were full of aggression before, stopped asserting themselves. In pairs, they headed back into the restaurant. With the absence of numerical advantage, soon there were no people left at the entrance of the restaurant.
Giselle had been splashed with water and her suit was soaking wet. She wiped it with her hand and took another look at Harper and Will.
She said, "I need to go change my clothes, Harper, I'll come to find you tomorrow."
Once Giselle left, it was just Will and Harper remaining.
Will said, "I'll take you home."
Harper seemed rather disheveled and was covered in filth. She didn't refuse Will's kind offer and said, "I appreciate it."
Once they got into the car, Harper provided the address for her hotel.
"You're not going home?"
"Giselle will come find me at the hotel tomorrow."
Without further inquiries, Will started driving. Along the way, he brought up another topic, "I've seen the news about you."
Harper's expression changed slightly. "Do you think it was me..."
"Of course not," Will said. "I was wondering, since your hospital doesn't trust you, have you considered going to Frystonia?"
