Chapter 279
"Is it good?"
His gaze drifted down to Giselle's hand.
Subconsciously gripping the vitamin in her hand, Giselle tugged at her lip, trying to sound as casual as possible, "What's there to taste good or not about vitamins? Isn't it all for the sake of supplementation?"
Supplementation!
Ha!
A silent, cold sardonic laughter bubbled up within Maverick, he hadn't known that Giselle could go to these lengths just to prevent pregnancy.
"Too cheap."
Maverick reached out and grabbed the box from Giselle's hand, "From now on, I will buy your vitamins."
Discarding Giselle's vitamins into the trash can without a second thought, he used a bit too much force, clearly, he was angry.
He swallowed his rage, not wanting the new spark between them to grow cold again.
After all —
What good would it do to confront Giselle!
He was always at a loss with her.
Tugging at his collar, Maverick suppressed the surging emotions in his chest, glaring menacingly at Giselle, he warned, "Don't let me catch you sneaking these again."
With that said, he turned around and strode away.
Giselle stood in the same place in confusion, all by herself.
Could it be that Maverick has found out? But he didn't confront her.
Giselle was a bit muddled for a moment. The only certain thing was that Maverick was very upset, extremely upset.
Because of Harper's words, Giselle could not keep calm. On the way back, she was thinking about communicating with Maverick, about visiting Patrick.
She had made up her mind, she had to persuade Maverick to agree.
If he was anxious, he could accompany her.
But now, obviously, it's not a good time for communication.
Her gaze shifted towards the trash bin, Giselle walked over, just as she was about to squat down, the bedroom door was pushed open again, Maverick saw Giselle's movement, and his face darkened several shades.
He stepped forward and kicked the trash bin away.
"Do you want to pick it up?"
"No, that’s not it!"
"Giselle," Maverick took a breath and said with great stress, "what do you take me, Maverick for?"
"......"
Giselle faltered, just about to speak, Maverick turned and left, this time he took the trash bag out with him.
Leaving Giselle alone, her words unspoken.
She didn't plan on picking it up just now.
.....
Maverick was cold and aloof all night.
Giselle was initially nervous, she worried if Maverick were to touch her without her taking medication, would it affect anything? However, all night, Maverick showed no intention of doing so.
He didn't even hold her in his arms.
This left Giselle, who was used to Maverick's initiations, feeling strangely empty.
She's not used to it!
She thought, habit is truly terrifying. It feels normal during the routine, but when you suddenly lose it, it feels suffocating, a bit distressing.
.....
Harper left very quickly, catching the flight the next day.
Giselle went to see her off.
Harper hadn't brought much home, just a small suitcase.
At the airport when they parted, Harper said, "Giselle, take care of yourself, and if anything happens, give me a call."
Giselle nodded, "You too. I remember your aunt is quite difficult to deal with. If they bully you, tell me immediately, no matter what, I will rush over."
Harper didn't respond, instead, she pulled Giselle into her arms and said, "Giselle, thank you for always being by my side."
This is what Giselle wanted to say, too.
Watching Harper enter the boarding gate, Giselle turned around to leave.
Walking out of the airport hall, her phone suddenly rang.
The phone number was unknown, from Finceland.
Giselle answered, "Hello."
"I am Vanessa."
Hearing it was Vanessa, Giselle's hand paused, instantly getting a bit nervous, "Are you calling because..."
"Do you have time to meet with me?" Vanessa interrupted Giselle, saying, "There are some things, I think you need to know."
"Is it about Patrick's illness?"
"Don't you want to know why Patrick left you and went to Makassa?"
Giselle gripped the phone tighter, she watched those two people Maverick arranged for her at a distance but were constantly watching her.
Giselle said, "Send me the address, I might be there later."
After hanging up, Giselle walked out.
After getting into the car, she said, "I want to go shopping, to the mall."
Arriving at the mall, Giselle bought lots of things, the two people were carrying big and small bags, so in the end, they couldn't even free up extra fingers.
"I'm going to the restroom, wait here for me," said Giselle as she headed for the nearby restroom. The two didn't think much of it, their vigilance slightly fading. Giselle was very familiar with the mall. A slight turn at the restroom would lead to a fire exit. With a smile, she took the stairs downwards.
The whole situation was ridiculously amusing.
It felt like she was playing an undercover game every time she met someone.
Giselle hailed a taxi outside and provided the address left by Vanessa.
A private room in a tea house.
Guided by a server, Giselle pushed open the door of the private room. There, Vanessa stood by a window, overlooking the tea house's backyard filled with artificial mountains, streams, and blossoming spring scenery.
Hearing the noise, Vanessa turned around and said to Giselle, "Please sit. What would you like to drink?"
Giselle casually ordered a cup of herbal tea.
The two sat opposite each other in a room adorned with antique décor, which wasn't the usual preference of the younger generation.
Vanessa noticed Giselle’s puzzled expression and calmly stated, "Indeed, it wasn't me who invited you here."
"Then who was it?"
Vanessa responded, "We should chat first."
Giselle looked at her, waiting for her to start the conversation.
A cup of black tea sat in front of Vanessa. She picked it up and held it in her hands, feeling the warm tea burning against her palms.
"I found Patrick in Makassa during the winter. I remember living in a tent outside for seven days, nearly dying from the cold. I'd wake up in the middle of the night wondering if he would really be so hard-hearted as to let me freeze to death, and yet, I thought I knew him well. Such a person who couldn't even bear to mistreat a stray cat, would he really do such a thing to a person? As I thought, he couldn't bear to do it. He invited me into his house and made me a cup of black tea. I was holding it in my hands, feeling the warmth."
Vanessa was engulfed in her memory as she spoke, Giselle just quietly listened without interrupting.
Giselle also wanted to know how Patrick had lived in those years in Makassa, and how he and Vanessa had lived together.
"After moving in, Patrick kept persuading me to return home every day, but I wouldn't. I'm not very good about many things, but once I make up my mind, I don't change it. You guys had just broken up, if I didn't take this opportunity, wouldn't I be very foolish?"
"When I first arrived in Makassa, Patrick was very depressed. He was drinking and smoking... He was totally different from how he was in Finceland, looking majestic and graceful. I knew it was because you two broke up. Although I didn't know why you broke up, Giselle..."
Suddenly Vanessa asked her, "Don't you find it strange? It was Patrick who didn't want you, so why was he so depressed?"
Giselle didn't say anything, even though it was indeed something she didn't understand.
Vanessa chuckled bitterly, "I also found it strange at the time, until one day when he got drunk. I was talking with him, and found out..."
She looked at Giselle, "You are his sister."
