Marina and Lina both stammered. Marina tried to speak, but her voice came out small. “David, I didn’t do anything. I just....I came because I heard she was hospitalized.” David’s face was hard now. Those words cut him to the bone. He felt the heat of shame and fear all at once. He didn’t answer with anger.
