Lily took a deep breath, steadying herself. “If you want to make things right, you earn it. You don’t get it just because you said sorry.” David’s whole body stiffened. His heart almost dropped. “Lily…?” he breathed out, like he was scared of the answer. “Yes.” Her voice didn’t shake anymore. “You don’t get to ask me to come back. Not after everything you did.” David’s fingers pressed harder into his lap. His voice came out rough and thin. “You want me to kneel… the whole night? Is that what you’re asking?” Lily paused. A tiny second. Because deep inside, very deep, there was still that girl who once loved him more than anything. But she shut that feeling down before it could grow. “You can really do that?” she asked, almost testing him. David dropped his head again. His shoulders sank, like the weight of the whole world was on him. “Of course. I’ll do anything for you, Lily. Anything.” Lily just stared at him, not believing it for a moment. She took a small step back. “Stand up,” she
