DOMINIC'S POV There was a beat of silence before I spoke again, my voice dropping low. "I love Olivia. And I always have. I just didn't know it until I lost her. I am truly regretful for leading you on too—I guess I was just looking for a replacement for Olivia, without realizing that no one can ever take her place in my life." Her face fell. She tried to hide it, but I saw the tremble in her lip, the way her throat bobbed when she swallowed. I almost felt sorry for her—almost. "She gave me twins," I continued, unable to keep the pride and ache from my voice. "She gave me a family. And I left her when she needed me most. I'll never forgive myself for that. But I will spend the rest of my life trying to make it right." Evelyn was silent for a moment. I sat there, waiting for her reaction—half-braced for the inevitable protest, the tearful plea, or maybe even the storm of accusations I had grown used to over the years. But it didn't come. When she finally spoke, her voice was soft, unexp
