Chapter 7
Lester, who was accompanying him in the hospital, suddenly felt a vast emptiness in his chest.
He furrowed his brow tightly, as if something vital had slipped silently from his life.
Lester clutched his phone, his reflexes urging him to call Lorraine.
But just as the number dialed, Letitia stumbled into him and crying out in pain. Lester's phone was crushed beneath her foot.
That call never went through.
“Lester, what are you staring at? My wound hurts so much. Can you take a look?”
Letitia gave him a seductive look, pulling his hand toward the depths of her neckline.
Even if Lester liked Letitia, he wasn't a beast.
She'd just had a miscarriage—how could he possibly entertain such thoughts?
Besides, for some reason, his mind was filled entirely with Lorraine's image.
Noticing Lester's distraction, a flicker of displeasure crossed Letitia's brow.
Then she asked in a tender and delicate tone:
“Lester, why are you zoning out when I'm right here?”
