She played and talked with Uno the whole day, and the smile on their faces didn’t fade until they went home. Uno tried to move his finger again, but he was still very weak. I stroked his hand, a soft smile tugging my lips. “You woke up…” I whispered. He gazed at me with his intense eyes. “I thought Bella was dead,” he rasped, his voice just as weak as his stare. “I had a dream of you and her calling me. Many times.” I brushed my fingers across his cheek. There was a tear in the corner of his eye, and I wiped it away as it escaped. “I’ve been thinking…” he paused, his voice hoarse. “What if you haven’t forgiven me? I couldn’t just go away and die, leaving you just like that, could I?” My lips trembled and I choked in tears.
