Chapter 1166
At the time, the shop owner had been completely crushed under the car, thinking he was done for. But unexpectedly, the emerald suddenly emitted a bright light, protecting him. When he was rescued, he found himself completely unharmed. Since then, he had never parted with the emerald.
He would never have considered selling it if it had not been for his family's crisis.
But he didn't dare set too high a price. His family needed three million dollars, and the other antiques in the shop were worth two million dollars in total, so he priced the emerald at one million dollars.
After all, items with spiritual power were tricky. If the sale was purely for profit, he feared it would bring him misfortune. However, the emerald had been hanging in the shop for a long time without anyone showing interest. The main reasons were its mediocre quality and high price.
Nobody thought it was worth that much. So, he decided to take a chance over the weekend, hoping to meet someone who truly knew its value. To his surprise, it was two little kids who showed interest in the emerald.
"Of course," Tilly replied. "Just pack up the emerald for us, and I'll pay right away."
The shop owner thought momentarily and said, "Alright, since you want it, I'll pack it up for you. But I must remind you of the rule on Antique Street. Once you've agreed to buy something, there are no returns. If you can't pay, I'll have to get your parents to settle the bill."
The shop owner wasn't the type of businessman to exploit others. He had no intention of deceiving the two children. But these two seemed quite knowledgeable, so he made sure to remind them.
Toby glanced at the emerald. It was indeed a good piece. Tilly had a good eye for these things. He took out his bank card and handed it to the shop owner. "Swipe the card."
Seeing Toby's generosity and willingness to pay by card, the shop owner said nothing further and began to pack up the emerald.
"Wait! We want this emerald!" a voice suddenly called out.
The shop owner looked over and saw a man and a woman leading a child. From their attire, it was clear they were well-off.
The shop owner quickly lowered his head. "I'm sorry, but these two kids have already bought this emerald. Please try another shop."
The rule on Antique Street had always been "first come, first served".
Moreover, this rule was established by the underground forces, and he dared not break it.
"Bought? Have they paid for it?" the woman asked coldly. "We want this emerald. Pack it up for us now."
The woman was an old acquaintance of Loid and Lily. She was Loid's cousin, Yvette.
Five years ago, she was sent to prison after being sued by Lily. She had spent five years in prison and, throughout that time, had been consumed with hatred for Lily.
If it weren't for Lily, how could she, the daughter of the prestigious Levenson family, have ended up with a criminal record? She had been plotting revenge on Lily ever since. But when she was released from prison, Lily was already dead.
Now, she had no place to vent her anger.
After Yvette's release from prison, the Levenson family refused to acknowledge her, feeling she had brought shame to the family. They even planned to send her back to her relatives in Aeston.
However, her mother, Sophia, wouldn't have it. She intervened repeatedly and eventually found Yvette a husband.
The husband was a member of the underground forces and held a relatively high position as the head of East End.
Over the years, the underground forces had grown significantly, and many people in the district had sought to curry favor with him.
Yvette's hopes of marrying into high society were dashed, so she had no choice but to marry into the underground forces. Fortunately, Hank Anderson listened to her and treated her well.
So, she had been living quite comfortably for the past couple of years. She recently developed a fondness for emeralds. Hank happened to have some free time today, so they went shopping together.
As they passed this shop, she saw the shop owner holding the emerald and immediately took a liking to it. Though the emerald wasn't the best quality, it perfectly complemented her outfit.
"This kid is about to pay. Sorry, I can't sell it to you," the shop owner stood his ground.
Yvette's face turned cold. "So, you're not planning to sell it to me? My husband is the head of the underground forces' East End. You'd better think carefully about whether you want to sell it to me."
