Chapter 66 Stop Pretending to Be Devoted
Inside a nicely decorated cafe at Skyridge Mall, Imelda stirred her latte and mindlessly scrolled through her phone. The sound of hurried footsteps closed in, carrying an unmistakable sense of urgency.
Gasping for air, Damian charged over with sweat dotting his forehead. He slammed his hands on the table in front of Imelda, leaning down to fix his intense gaze on her. "Is Lila truly dead?"
Imelda was startled, her spoon rattling in the cup. She looked up at the crazed man in front of her, frowning. "What are you talking about, Damian?"
He was worked up, his voice rough and filled with urgency. "She's in Evermere. I saw a woman who looked exactly like her last night."
Imelda froze. She figured Lila must have run into Damian.
She couldn't help but snicker in contempt. "You and the Harts are the reason Lila died three years ago. Why are you asking me this now?"
He couldn't accept the words she had said. He was clinging to that one last shred of hope, and he wasn't about to let it go
