Chapter 134
Cassie laughed and Becky scooped Abby up in her arms. “They’re just clip-in,” Abby continued to explain, “‘cause I’m not allowed to have color in my hair. Not until I’m a teenager.”
“Well they still look great,” Cassie said.
“What’s in the box?” Abby asked.
Cassie flicked the lid open. “Cupcakes,” she said and Abby clapped with glee.
“Come through to the kitchen and I’ll make us some coffee,” Becky said, leading the way. She sat Abby on a stool at the kitchen bench and then turned to the espresso machine. “What would you like? Cappuccino, flat white, latte?”
“A latte would be perfect,” Cassie said.
“Babycino for me!” Abby said.
Becky made their drinks and then sat with them on the bench. She pulled out a cupcake for Abby and placed it on a plate for her before giving one to Cassie and then taking one for herself.
They chatted about inconsequential things while Abby ate her cupcake. The four-year-old entertained them with stories from her ballet class the day before and Cassie made all
