Chapter 489
“Quiet,” Natalie said. “I told her she had no right to blame you for trying to look after your own interests when everybody knew she was a bloody gold digger. I expected her to defend herself but she…she just left.”
“Fuck,” Jonathon said, dropping his head into his hand. How the hell was he going to make this right?
“I’m sorry Jonathon,” Cassie said, resting her hand on his arm. “If it’s any consolation, I think she really does love you.”
He laughed. A short bark of resigned laughter. He was so deep in the shit he couldn’t even see daylight. If Emma loved him at all, it was probably burned away in fury after his so-called friends confronted her about being a gold digger. He knew her heart, though. Even when he knew she was actively pursuing Liam, who she thought was him, he understood her motivation. He’d barely gotten her to admit her feelings for him and it had all blown up in her face. He wouldn’t blame her if she never wanted to see him again.
“And you really love her, don’t you?’
