Paige’s POV
“You can just use my car, Paige. No need to buy another one.” Ares’s voice was gruff, but his concern was genuine.
I gave him a soft nod. “That was my plan, actually.”
His scent,like pine needles after rain,was tinged with a hint of fatigue, a reminder of the sickness gnawing at him.
“I’ll just take a cab to work,” Ares replied, stubborn as ever.
I frowned. “Work? No, Ares. You’re not working anymore. You to focus on your treatment. ”
Alex appeared, trotting down the stairs with his usual easy grace, running a hand through his hair. His aura was calm and soothing,always the peacemaker.
“I agree with Paige,” he said, flashing a grin at Asher, who sat at the kitchen counter swinging his legs.
“Hey, little wolf, do I look handsome enough for your first day?” Alex teased.
Asher giggled, giving him a dramatic thumbs-up. “You look like a movie star, Uncle Alex.”
I couldn’t help but smile, but my attention snapped back to Ares. He looked ready to argue, his brows drawn tight.
