Eva’s Point of View
The drive to the hospital was a blur. Sally’s hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, her knuckles white as she navigated through the evening traffic. My own hands trembled uncontrollably in my lap, and no matter how hard I tried to steady them, the fear in my chest only grew heavier.
I barely registered Sally’s voice as she spoke, her words a mixture of comfort and urgency. “You’ll be okay, Eva. Just breathe. Whatever happens, you’ll get through this. You’re strong.”
I nodded numbly, my gaze fixed on the rain-slicked streets outside. The world seemed distant, like I was watching it through a foggy window. My father’s face flashed in my mind stern, proud, and yet so full of contradictions. The memory of our last conversation surfaced, sharp and cutting.
“I’ll never forgive you,” I had said, my voice cold and unyielding. The look in his eyes had been unreadable, but now, in hindsight, I wondered if there had been a flicker of regret.
