"Why don’t you go ahead and ask everyone here whose pendant this is now?" Cassandra shot back with a cold smile full of sarcasm.
The pendant had always belonged to her—now it was just back where it should be.
"I..." Mara glanced around the crowd. Her arrogance instantly deflated as she switched to a delicate, pitiful tone. "Cassandra, this pendant means a lot to me. I’ll trade you a new one, okay?"
"Nope," Cassandra answered flatly, already turning to leave.
Ethan quickly moved to block her. "Cassandra, this pendant belonged to Mara’s sister, Faye. It’s a keepsake for her memory. If you like pendants, I can pay you. You can go buy another one with the money, deal?"
"I like this one. No amount of money can buy it." Cassandra gave a smug grin and threw Mara a cold glance. "Besides, I don’t think it's really that important to Miss Hawthorne. If it meant that much, she wouldn’t have gambled it away, would she?"
