Hazel remembered all too clearly how Helen had drunkenly shoved her into Eden’s room that night. Since she was the one who had intruded into someone else’s space, guilt still gnawed at her. Steering her shared bike toward him, she figured the least she could do was offer a proper apology.
She braked to a smooth stop in front of him.
Before she could say anything, Eden smiled, warm and composed. “Miss Reese, I was at fault that night. Let me treat you to a meal to make up for it. Would that be alright?”
Hazel didn’t see the need to turn him down. She had always had a good impression of Eden—and truly, the incident hadn’t been his fault. She’d been blackout drunk when Helen dragged her into his room. Eden had been caught completely off guard. Worse, he’d been drugged, and had done the right thing by kicking her out—anyone with less restraint might have chosen a darker path under the excuse of needing a “cure.”
So she accepted.
After parking her bike, she got into his car.
