Chapter 476

Unit One immediately moved to protect Jane as per its programming, but the moment it took action, the fake Aubree swiftly hurled a lump of black metal at it. Unit One froze mid-motion before collapsing to the ground with a thud. Aubree sneered, "So you think you're something special just because your brother gave you a little toy, huh?" With that, she reached out to grab Jane. But the little girl dodged like a slippery eel, nimbly weaving behind her. Before the imposter could react, a powerful electric current surged through her body, sending violent tremors through her limbs. Peeking out from behind with a mischievous grin, Jane chirped in her sweet, singsong voice, "Oh, I don’t just have my brother’s little toys—I’ve got my own inventions too!" She added playfully, "And sure, maybe I’m not all that capable, but dealing with a self-important dummy like you? Piece of cake!" The fake Aubree collapsed, foaming at the mouth—whether from the shock or sheer rage was anyone’s guess. Jane toddled over on her tiny feet and picked up the black metal device the woman had dropped. It was just a magnetic field disruptor. Once activated, the scrambled signals had fried Unit One’s circuitry, rendering it useless. She flicked the switch off, then led the reactivated Unit One outside just in time to see Frederick, Huan, and Ares Kai boarding the ship on a rescue boat. The moment Frederick stepped onto the deck and spotted Jane standing triumphantly with Unit One, his icy expression melted into warmth. Her eyes lit up, and she scampered toward him on her short little legs, wrapping her arms around his thigh. "Brother Frederick! You’re here!" she cooed, her voice dripping with sweetness. Just as Frederick was about to pick up Jane, Huan swiftly scooped her up instead. Holding the child, Huan curved his lips into a gentle smile and said to Frederick, "You must be exhausted after that fight earlier. Let me carry Jane for now." Though Frederick's expression remained composed in front of the little girl, his deep, dark eyes darkened imperceptibly. Ares Kai gazed up at Jane nestled in Huan's arms, then let out a long, wistful sigh and lowered his head. Jane, however, couldn’t care less about who held her. At home, she was already used to her brothers and cousins vying to carry her, so she had long adopted a laid-back attitude about which brother’s arms she’d eventually end up in. Right now, she was far more concerned about something else. "Brother Frederick, Brother Huan," she asked, her tiny brow furrowing in confusion, "did you find the real Aubree on that ship?" Huan shook his head. They had genuinely drunk the juice and fallen unconscious. But shortly after being transferred to another vessel, Frederick had roused them with a special incense. Only after waking did they learn from Frederick that the little girl claiming to be Aubree was suspicious. After subduing everyone on the ship, they combed through every corner—yet found no trace of the real Aubree. Jane’s frown deepened. "How could she not be there?" she murmured, her voice tinged with worry. "Could they really be so ruthless… that they threw her into the sea for the sharks?" Frederick's eyes softened with tenderness as he noticed Jane's puzzled expression. "Jane, actually...." "I get it now." Before Frederick could explain, Jane had already figured it out on her own. "There was never a 'real' or 'fake' Aubree. This Aubree might not be a five-year-old girl, but she *is* the real one—and her parents are definitely involved in this!" Without hesitation, Jane contacted Lucas, briefing him on the situation and asking him to alert the National Security Bureau. Meanwhile, Unit One, having ensured Jane's safety, had already doubled back on its own initiative, restraining both Peter and Aubree. Jane instructed Unit One to pilot the ship back to the harbor and hand it over to Lucas. Meanwhile, she returned to the show's crew boat with Frederick, Huan, and Ares Kai. Huan ignored Frederick's penetrating gaze and Ares Kai's resentful glare the entire way, refusing to let go of Jane until they boarded the lifeboat and returned to the show's vessel. Only then did he finally set her down. Mina rushed over, engulfing Jane in a bear hug before pulling back to excitedly grip her hands. "Jane! Did you catch the bad guys?" "Mm-hmm." Jane nodded. "Unit One is on that ship. It'll take it back for Brother Lucas and the National Security agents to handle." Mina clenched her fists, practically vibrating with excitement. "Jane, let me tell you—those jerks dragged us onto a ship, saying they were taking us to some lab to use us as lab rats! Ugh, I was so mad. I just started punching them one after another it felt amazing!" Elijah, standing nearby, couldn't resist chiming in bluntly. "Mina, you did punch them one by one, sure. But if Huan hadn't followed behind you each time to knock them out cold, you'd probably be shark food by now." Mina turned her head and glared fiercely at Elijah. "Elijah! I'm warning you—don't you dare spout nonsense! Clearly, it was because Little Mute was too weak to take down those guys, so I had to step in and finish the job!" "But that's not what—" Elijah tried to argue. Huan had already walked up behind him, chuckling as he chimed in, "Mina's right. I couldn't handle those thugs, so she helped me out with a few punches." Frederick glanced at Huan, whose face was lit up with a radiant smile, then at Mina, who wore a proud, defiant expression. Suddenly, everything clicked. A smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. So, Huan still had the audacity to snatch Jane from his arms, huh? Tch. Jane followed her sister inside the cabin, listening to her boast about her heroic exploits. At first, seeing how lively everyone was Frederick, Huan, Ares Kai, Mina, even Elijah she had assumed no one was hurt. But as soon as she stepped into the cabin, a rhythmic chorus of groans and moans reached her ears. Following the sound, she spotted Director Xing—all 180 pounds of his burly frame—sprawled on a yoga mat while a crew member applied ointment to his wounds. Ariana and Hazel hovered nearby, blowing on his injuries with tender concern. Yet, he still wailed like a stuck pig. Mina studied the bruises and cuts covering Director Xing’s body, her eyes brimming with regret. "If I’d known so many people would get hurt, I would’ve brought my homemade miracle medicine. Then you all could’ve seen just how amazing it is!" The innocent Ariana and Hazel immediately gazed at her with admiration. "Sister Mina, how amazing is your miracle medicine?" Mina promptly crossed her legs and sat down on the floor with exaggerated solemnity. "Oh, it’s incredibly powerful." "Listen to this, folks! I once had a rabbit at home that broke its leg in a fall – completely snapped! But the moment I applied my miracle ointment, that little guy started hopping around so fast I couldn't even catch it!" "Wow, Sister Mina, you're amazing!" Hazel's eyes sparkled as she gazed at Mina with starstruck admiration. "If only I could be as skilled as you... Then I could heal my brother's legs," Ariana murmured, her small head drooping at the mention of the rabbit's injury. The thought of her brother, who could no longer walk, made her voice heavy with sadness. Mina immediately wrapped an arm around Ariana's shoulders. "Hey now, don't be upset! When I get home, I'll give you a jar of my miracle ointment. Rub it on your brother's legs, and I guarantee he'll be up and running in no time!" "Really? Oh, Sister Mina, thank you so much!" Ariana, who had been crouching on the ground, sprang up eagerly and bowed deeply in gratitude. Nearby, Jane twitched at the corners of her eyes. This sister of mine...She'd have to warn Ariana later—under no circumstances should she actually use that homemade "miracle" concoction! Maybe she could even find a way to test the ointment on Mina herself. That might finally cure her of this baffling confidence in handing out dubious remedies to everyone.
