Chapter Sixteen

Over the next few days, Luke felt as though his life had magically transformed. Before, he’d gone to bed longingly and would wake up with an annoyance in his soul because he wasn’t waking up beside the woman he loved. All through the years of High School and early years of college, he’d watched Katie date other guys and most times, she needed his help with them. Despite how the jealousy always broke him, he’d endured, hoping that one day she’d see just how much he wanted to be in her life. Katie was everything he wanted in his life. she was smart, fun, thoughtful and lots more. Over the past two years, he’d tried to fill the void by taking in Leslie. Leslie hadn't been Katie but she’d been the closest thing to the fantasies he wanted to explore. However, his fantasies were becoming reality. That morning, he woke up with a big smile on his face because he was waking up beside Katie. He kissed her good morning and she smiled and then winced. The wounds from the burns had yet to heal
