Of course Ethan knew. He looked at Clara, a shadow flickering in his eyes. “You can’t just take it out on me,” Clara cut him off before he could speak. Ethan narrowed his eyes slightly. Her voice was still soft, but her words came out fast and sharp, “You said it yourself—pregnant women shouldn’t be upset. Well, guess what? I’m super upset right now. If you lose your temper, who knows what I’ll do?” “You threatening me now?” Ethan asked flatly. Clara said nothing, just stared off, not confirming or denying it. But even she couldn’t deny it anymore—this little argument wasn’t actually making her feel any better. She knew what she wanted was impossible. Getting herself all worked up over it was only gonna hurt one person—herself. So, she gave herself a way out. Ethan just looked at her for a beat, then he turned the steering wheel and started heading toward the east side of the city.
