“I’ll get dressed first,” Eleanor murmured after a moment of silence, her voice low, almost hesitant.
Robert nodded, stepping to the other side of the room and setting the food box he held onto the table. Yet he made no move to leave.
Eleanor felt a flicker of awkwardness under his unwavering gaze. She glanced at him, a slight question in her eyes. But then she reminded herself—after everything they’d been through, what was the point in feeling embarrassed anymore?
With that thought, Eleanor quickly began dressing, her movements brisk and sure. She soon freshened up and, feeling a surprising pang of hunger, wasted no time opening the breakfast Robert had brought. She started to eat, quietly but quickly.
