Chapter 362 There Must Be A Trap

Mark looked at the text message with a cold smirk across his lips. “What’s wrong, Daddy?” “She’s starting to lose her cool,” Mark replied. “Our chances of saving Mommy would be greater if this keeps up,” Hansel remarked. Mark was without a word. However, her gaze turned obscure while studying the text message. ... In the next few days, Mark could be said to have completely gained control of Delilah’s company, yet he pretended that that was not the case. Meanwhile, men kept watch over the ward with no entry allowed over at the hospital. Doctors could only gain access under Lingo’s supervision. Ms. Davis had failed in several attempts to sneak in. Out of avenues, she held a doctor hostage one night. “What-what are you trying to do?” The doctor fearfully enquired. “Pipe down. I’m only asking you a question. You’d be fine if you answer honestly,” Ms. Davis said. “Abo-about what?” The doctor stared at her in fear. “How is the patient in room 106 doing?” She asked. “Do you mean, Ms. Collins?” “Yes.” “About this...” “What?” “Mr. Pattinson has advised us against telling.” “What if I insist?” Ruthlessness flickered in her narrowed eyes. The doctor had quite the fright by the look on her face, thus giving in. “I’ll talk, I’ll talk...” “Speak!” Ms. Davis viciously snapped. “Ms. Collins is actually not doing too well. She was in critical condition when sent in the other day, but her condition has stabilized in the last few days.” “Not too well? Why is she not too well? What’s the situation?” “About this... We don’t have a diagnosis and are still looking into it.” “Could she be poisoned?” “Uh, it’s not poison. We’re not sure what’s the situation either.” “Is her life in danger?” “Uh... It’s hard to tell.” “You’re not sure, it’s hard to tell. What’s the use of having you in the hospital?” Ms. Davis was enraged. “Young lady, doctors are not gods. We are limited in our capacity. Moreover, she’s showing symptoms we have never seen before.” There was nothing more Ms. Davis could say at this point. “Call me immediately if anything changes with her from here on out. Don’t worry, you will get what’s due.” She took off after hurling a name card at him. Looking at her receding figure, the doctor quietly let out a sigh of relief. He took out a phone and dialed a number. “Mr. Pattinson, I’ve followed your instruction...” “Good.” Lifting a smirk, Mark terminated the call. “What’s going on, Daddy?” Hansel enquired. “She took the bait,” Mark told him. Hansel stared back at him. “In that case, would she be making a move soon?” “Unless she doesn’t care about Delilah’s life. Otherwise, I trust that she’d make a call tomorrow.” Mark was sure. ... Lyla gazed at the person before her. Even though she was feeble in strength, she still cast a smile. Ms. Davis was already displeased, to begin with. However, the smile on Lyla’s face pissed her off more. “What are you smiling about?” She spoke through clenched teeth. “The expression on your face tells me that it hasn’t been smooth sailing for you,” Lyla replied while holding out. Ms. Davis dangerously narrowed her eyes. “So what?” “I told you before that happiness does not come with a forced relationship. Delilah deserves better. She and Mark are unsuited for each other.” “Don’t speak with righteousness like you know everything. I’ll have you know that you’d be lucky to come out alive this time.” Lyla focused on her. “What’s the difference between killing me and what you’re doing to me now?” “I can only torture you without killing you now because there is still use of you being alive. Otherwise, you’d been dead by now,” Ms. Davis mercilessly answered. The glint alighted in her eyes, relaying her wish to kill Lyla. “What are you planning to do?” “You better pray that Ms. Collins is fine or else I’ll bury you with her.” Lyla frowned, having no idea of what was happening outside. “What’s wrong with Delilah?” “You don’t have to know about this. The only thing you should know is that you’d not live if anything happens to her.” Lyla, “...” She did not ask further questions. However, according to Ms. Davis, Lyla had a feeling that she would soon leave this place. ... The morning of the next day. There was a commotion in the hospital as Mark had transferred Delilah out of the hospital. Mark specifically had the doctor release the news to Ms. Davis. By doing so, she would slip up due to her weak spot. The news had not been released for long when there was a ring on Mark’s phone. “Mark Pattinson, what the hell are you up to?” “Don’t bother what I’m up to. Don’t forget, you didn’t make good on your promise so why should I listen to you?” Mark retorted with a question. “You seem to care a lot for that woman.” “Aren’t you the same?” The other party held her tongue for long. “Where did you transfer her to?” “This is a stupid question. Do you think I’ll tell you?” “You—” “You should know what I’m after if you really want Delilah back. Also, I can guarantee that you will not see her again if anything happens to her.” “Don’t you dare!” “We’ll see if I have the guts. I’m not at a disadvantage even if I don’t get what I’m after. I still have the large Collins Corporation anyway. At the end of the day, it’s not like I don’t get anything.” “Mark Pattinson, you’re a b*stard!” “Wasn’t it you who drove me bit by bit to this? It’s all thanks to you that I easily took down a huge corporation. It was a piece of cake. I’m grateful for that.” Ms. Davis was clear that Mark was playing mind games with her, but she was not sure about the type of person Mark was. Perhaps he really thought so. How could she possibly face Ms. Collins if he were to really take down Collins Corporation? With that in mind, she uttered, “Fine. We will make the exchange tomorrow afternoon. How about that?” “No problem.” Mark agreed to it. “I’ll have you meet your maker if I don’t see her then.” “I’ll say the same to you.” ... With that, the call was cut off. Hansel and Lingo were listening in through earphones. After the call ended, Hansel lifted his head from the computer. “Daddy, we got the location. Should we send someone over?” “There’s no need for that. She must have prepared to boldly make this call. We wouldn’t be able to find anything if we head there now.” “Will she really trade Mommy over tomorrow?’ Hansel was still worried. “She has no other choice.” Mark appeared cold-blooded. ... The next day. Mark had nothing to do that day, except to wait for the phone to ring. Hansel and Gretel fixated their gaze on the phone. Anxious, they were pacing back and forth. It became riskier with each day Lyla was not found and nobody knew how she was doing. How could they possibly feel at ease? It was the afternoon, yet the call had not come. Gretel would not sit still. “Daddy, why isn’t she calling? Would she blow us off?” Mark turned his gaze afar. Listening to Gretel’s words, he reached out to rub his temple. “No. She will call today.” Mark’s tone was firm. “But it’s late now.” Gretel seemed impatient. “She’s doing it on purpose to test our patience,” Mark concluded. Gretel might be concerned but it was not her place to speak further on the matter. Hence, she continued to pace about the room. Just then, Mark’s phone rang, prompting him to grab the phone immediately. Glancing at the long-awaited phone number, Mark was stirred with a wave of mixed emotions. He pressed to accept the call. “Hello...” “I’m sending you an address. Come over. This is a one-to-one exchange. I believe that you won’t call the cops, right?” “I want her, not you dead.” “That’s great. Otherwise, I’m not going to be the only one dead.” Ms. Davis threatened. “What now?” Mark enquired. “I’ll send you an address. Come right now and remember, you have to come on your own,” Ms. Davis answered on the other end of the line. With the phone in hand, Mark’s eyes shimmered. “Alright.” The people behind drew close following the call. “Daddy, how was it?” “Daddy, how was it?” Hansel and Gretel posed a question while Neil watched on, waiting for an answer. Mark stared at them. “I’m going alone.” “You’re going alone?” “Yes.” Mark nodded. “What if the woman sets you up?” Hansel enquired with worry. “Even if it’s a set up, I have to go myself. I can’t fool around with your mommy’s life at stake.” “It’s obvious that it’s a trap for that woman to ask you to go alone. Daddy....” Mark turned to him. “Your mommy’s safety is more important than me. Regardless of whether it’s a trap, I have to go by myself.” Without a word more, Mark shoved his way out and took off. “Daddy...” “Daddy, Daddy...” Hansel and Gretel cried. Neil extended an arm and stopped him. Mark swept Neil a glance. “I believe that you would do the same if it were Amanda.” With that, Neil slowly lowered his arm. Indeed. That was why Neil, as his bro, supported his decision. “No matter what, please come back alive.” Without a word, Mark departed after leaving behind the profound message. Hansel and Gretel’s heart went out to Mark as they gazed at his receding figure. “What are we going to do? Are we really going to let Daddy go there alone?” Heavy with concern, Gretel asked. Lingo shook her head. “You know, you guys are usually pretty smart but can be silly when it comes down to it.” With all eyes on her, Lingo went straight to the point. “Are you really going to listen to him when he tells you not to go? Can’t we secretly go? I don’t believe that he would notice if we tag along.” Darn it. Lingo did come in handy at certain times.
