A CHILD
“No…no.
I…you don’t understand.
I can’t be pregnant,” the words choked in my chest, as I burst into a panic attack.
The doctor stretched her hands, reaching for me as she clasped her soft hands around my sweaty ones.
“There’s no need to be worried, Leah.
It’s just a theory, and it might be wrong.
And if you are pregnant, remember–the child’s fate always lies in your hands,” she said softly, and her last words made my head snap up.
Staring deep into her eyes, I shook my head, knowing if I were actually pregnant.
Her last words were definitely out of the box.
After a few minutes, she spoke calmly. “Are you ready to take the test now?”
I took in a deep breath, calming myself, as I nodded, my reply above a whisper.
She smiled as if proud of my answer.
Her hands moved beneath her table and she brought out three pregnancy test kits.
“You can go in the bathroom, and pee on it.
I’ll be out here waiting for you,” she said.
A gust of air left my lips as my trembling hands took the kits from her
