Judy’s POV The ride back to the villa was quiet. Nan and I sat in the backseat, and Erik drove. The others went home in their own vehicles, and I had no idea where Irene went. She didn’t go with us, and she won’t answer her phone. She disappeared almost immediately after Erik showed up. Erik hadn’t said a word since we left the packhouse. His grip was turning white on the steering wheel. I knew he was hurting because of Irene’s brush-off, and I felt bad for him. “I’m just going to call Chester really quick,” Nan said as she took out her cellphone. I probably should have suggested taking her home instead of making her come to the villa with me; she hadn’t seen Chester or her daughter all day. But honestly, I really didn’t want to be alone right now. I needed to work through whatever was happening, and I needed my best friend to do it with me. As Nan spoke to Chester on the phone, I leaned forward in my seat, bringing me a bit closer to Erik. “How are you doing?” I asked
