Giselle immediately froze on the spot. She hadn't even realized when Gavin had left the house.
All she knew was that Penelope had called for her father earlier, but he never came.
It made sense now. Gavin had something more important to handle. To him, Chantelle was probably the one who truly mattered.
Giselle stared blankly into the distance.
Chantelle was drunk—completely wasted. She was so drunk that she didn't even seem to recognize the man standing before her.
She shoved Gavin with all her strength. "Don't touch me. Stop touching me. Go away. What? Do you like me or something?"
Gavin said in a lowered voice, "You're drunk, Chantelle. I'm taking you home."
Chantelle stumbled back a few steps. "I want to be drunk. I like to be drunk. Only when I'm drunk can I numb myself from the pain.
"I can lie to myself. I can finally be who I really am. My whole life's a failure. No one has ever truly loved me."
There was a flicker of pity in Gavin's eyes. "Tell me. What happened?"
