CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FOUR – TRACKED DOWN AGAIN
On the fourth day, as Cassie was hanging laundry on a line behind the cabin, she froze. In the distance, she saw movement – a flash of dark clothing among the trees.
Her heart racing, she hurried back inside. "Florian," she hissed. "I think I saw someone out there."
His expression darkened as he peered out the window. "Damn it. They must have tracked us somehow."
They watched in tense silence as two men in black suits emerged from the treeline, scanning the area.
"Karl's men," Florian confirmed grimly. "We need to be ready to move."
Cassie felt panic rising in her chest. "Move where? We don't have a car, and they're between us and the road."
Florian ran a hand through his hair, frustration evident on his face. "I don't know. I need to think."
As night fell, they huddled in the dark cabin, speaking in whispers. The patrol had moved on, but they knew it was only a matter of time before they returned.
