CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTEEN – BLENDING IN
Over the next frantic hour, Sam proved to be a godsend. He provided them with dock worker uniforms and forged documents that would get them past security. More importantly, he knew of a cargo ship leaving for Rotterdam that morning.
"It's our best shot," Sam explained as they hurried through the maze of shipping containers. "The captain owes me a favor. He'll look the other way if I ask."
As they approached the massive vessel, Cassie's heart raced with a mixture of fear and hope. This was it – their last chance at freedom.
Sam led them to a shipping container near the stern of the ship. "You'll hide in here," he said, unlocking the door. "It's got some basic supplies – water, food, blankets. It won't be comfortable, but it'll get you across the Atlantic."
Cassie hugged Sam impulsively. "Thank you," she whispered. "We'll never forget this."
Sam blushed, mumbling, "Just be safe, alright? And if you ever make it big wherever you're going, remember us little guys back here."
