CHAPTER FORTY – POLITICKING IN THE CLUB
It was going well until Mr. Reeves decided he wanted to move to the bar. Cassie intercepted him smoothly.
"Mr. Reeves," she said with a bright smile, "I was just about to bring you another drink. Why don't you let me escort you back to your table? It's much more comfortable there."
Mr. Reeves frowned. "I'm perfectly capable of getting my own drink, my dear. And I feel like sitting at the bar tonight."
Cassie's mind raced. She could see Mr. Holloway at the other end of the bar, engrossed in conversation with a colleague. If Mr. Reeves went to the bar, a confrontation would be inevitable.
"Actually, Mr. Reeves," Cassie said, thinking quickly, "I just remembered that Marcus wanted to speak with you about a special wine he's acquired. He asked me to bring you to the private tasting room. Shall we?"
Mr. Reeves's eyes lit up at the mention of special wine. "Well, why didn't you say so? Lead the way, my dear."
