Chapter 113 Betrayal
A bitter taste of betrayal filled her mouth. She stole a glance at Lucian, searching for some kind of support, some reassurance in his eyes. But his face remained unreadable, a mask of icy anger that sent shivers down her spine.
"They… they were seeing each other even before Mary got married to her husband," Olivia finished in a choked sob.
The final piece of the puzzle clicked into place. Mary's veiled glances, Fred's stolen moments, it all made sense now. They'd been deceiving her all along, laughing at her behind her back while she pined away for a love that never existed.
Jane felt mortified, a wave of shame washing over her. All this time, she'd trusted them, considered them her friends, and they'd used her emotions as a game.
Tears welled up in her own eyes, blurring her vision. Betrayal, like a serpent, coiled around her heart, squeezing the life out of her. She wanted to scream, to rage at their cruelty, but all that came out was a choked sob that escaped her lips.
